GE King Capacity Model #WHDRR418G1WW

by Donnie
(Four Oaks, NC)

I have had this washing machine for about 6 months, and I absolutely love it! I am most impressed with the size of the wash basket. I ordered the washing machine online and had it delivered, and when I opened the lid I was amazed by how large the wash basket actually is. It handles large loads, well, too. My clothes seem to come out very clean even when I do a jumbo load. The basket is stainless steel, which is also nice.

The machine is pretty quiet, but it does make some really odd sounds-clicks and clacks that my old washer (also a GE)never made. But the information that comes with the washer explains that those sounds are totally normal. They are not particularly loud or disruptive, just different.

This washer also has 18 cycles, of which I must admit I use about two! But for those who are more savvy about their laundry, I can't imagine that there is anything you would want this washer to do that it couldn't.

Overall, my new washer has proven to be a great value. It was very affordable and performs well so far. If it lasts as long as my old GE washer (15 plus years) then it will have been a great purchase!

failed after 1 year 4 months

motor board shows 'lock rotor'. new motor and board assembly $200 plus 2 hours of searcing the net and troubleshoot myself. Other part of the machine maybe well designed and build. But the most important part (1/2 the cost) of the machine is junk.

Would NOT recommend this unit at any price
by: Anonymous

Unit worked well initially. It stopped agitating, and I called a repairman. The agitation is direct connected to the motor (no transmission) and is controlled by a computer board. The board has a thermal sensor to prevent motor burnout. So as the motor warms up, the board shuts it down.

You cannot replace the motor alone. you have to buy the motor and board as a single unit - almost $200. Add the initial service call ($50+) and then the labor to RR the unit, I would be in for $300+.

Piece of crap, designed to fail IMHO. Would NOT recommend this unit at any price.

The worst washer i have ever owned!!
by: Anonymous

After owning this washer for a couple of months it started making grinding noises and all kind of racket.I thought some one was breaking into my house it made so much noise. We dont wash big loads there are only two of us.But i would rate it a "0" if i could because its nothing but trouble. We called where we bought it and they asked for the receipt. Our children bought it for a present. No receipt,so they said to look under the lid and it will tell when it was manufactured,So i did and it dont say anything.I most likely will toss it and buy another kenmore,Had my last one for years till it got rusty and gave it away and they are still using it.Hey atleast it washed our clothes. My opinion this is the last GE we will buy. What it is ,is what it is,

it appears this person in her post stated this was a front loading washer. It is not. This model is a top loading washer.

many features and quiet
by: Anonymous

I do not have anything bad to say about this washer. You can easily fit a King-sized comforter in the washer. It runs so quietly. It has so many different cycles to choose from – delicates, super wash, gentle etc. However, the best thing about this washer is my water bill. I had a traditional top loading washer before it broke. I really wanted the front load so my comforter would fit. My water bill was chopped almost in half. Not only am I saving money but I am helping save the environment too.
