Frigidaire Affinity ATF6000ES1

by Dave
(Moncton, NB, Canada)

When my wife and I bought our first house, we decided it was time for new laundry equipment. After doing some research and on the advice of a helpful sales person we decided that the Frigidaire Affinity series would fit our needs. On paper it had the quality, durability and energy efficiency we required. Ultimately we feel we made the correct choice in purchasing this washer.

Selection of wash cycles are made easy by using the large dial in the center of the controls. Choosing additional cycle options (via push button controls) while somewhat cumbersome at first, was made easy once we got used to how the controls functioned.

While the machine uses much less water than conventional (top loading) laundry equipment, I have found that this washer performs surprisingly well. The wash and rinse cycles leave clothes exceptionally clean. Only the most soiled of clothing requires the use of the heavy duty cycle and/or extra rinse and extended spin options.

Using the high speed spin cycle, most articles of clothing are nearly dry (when compared with traditional top-loading laundry equipment), requiring minimal drying time afterward. If items washed are heavier material, an 'extended spin' option is available, leaving even the heaviest of materials nearly dry.

As our child uses cloth diapers, getting them clean the first time is a top priority for us. The washer (using the heavy duty cycle with extra rinse and extended spin) does an excellent job of cleaning them.

While my experience overall is positive, there are some points that I believe Frigidaire could improve on this series in the future:
- The bleach dispenser drawer almost always has standing water in it. According to the documentation this is normal, but it rather irks me as it take up room for the bleach.
- The automatic door lock on the door does not unlock immediately after you cancel (or pause) a cycle. I've had to un-plug the machine in order to open the door to add an additional item to be washed.

Overall, I find that the Frigidaire Affinity series to be highly efficient and exceptionally quiet. I also find that the washer seems to be very solid overall and well built.

Fridgedaire has horrible products and does not stand behind their products!
by: Anonymous

We've had this washer and the dryer combo since 2006. It leaves clothes smelling sour and cannot remove the smell any longer. Mildew gets built up in the rubber ring. Now the the washer will not spin the clothes which leaves them soaking wet at the end. It could possible be: pump, control panel or door lock assembly. Which they've determined it is the door lock assembly and you cannot buy this part any longer! So I now need a new washer.

DO NOT BUY FRIDGEDAIRE products because we've had numerous problems with out entire kitchen adapted with their products. Dishwasher has been repaired numerous times and finally replaced. I will never buy their products again!

Garbage Product
by: Anonymous

The first 6 months we had it, it was only working 3 months due to control board going bad & pump problem. Now the door is broken and I have had to wait over a week for parts. Their customer service is very poor as well - contacted them early on with our problems and never got a response. The only positive out of all this was that we bought the extended warranty and that saved our wallet for the initial breakdowns. This machine is junk and the company doesn't stand behind it, beware.

Dirty Clothes and Bearing Failure
by: Tina

Purchased this washer in January 2008 I have never been happy with how it cleans. I have to wash my husbands clothes at least twice to get the dirt out. Granted he gets real dirty, but I think the washer doesn't use enough water. In addition, my clothes and towels often still smell after being washed. I've thrown away several towels just because I couldn't get the soured smell out. About a year after purchasing this machine the seal started getting mildue. Once it starts you can't seem to stop it. We have cleaned it with chemicals made for the purpose, and we leave the door open, but the bottom third is completely black looking now. I have to slowly remove "clean" clothes to keep them from bumping the seal because it will get dirty marks on the clothes again. Recently, the bearings started going out. I think that is sad for a washer that is only 4 years old. Since I hate it anyway we are getting a new one. I will NEVER buy a Frigidaire again. In fact you couldn't give me another Frigidaire. Can't count the number of times I've had to rewash something if not the whole load, yet I use HE detergent and followed the directions. In addition, the dryer pinches my clothes and has ruined several articles. They either get caught around the light or between the drum and the seal or both.

Stops in the middle of the cycle
by: Anonymous

We had it for four years. It stops after running for 3-4 minutes, which are actually only few seconds. Then stops and goes back to the beginning of the cycle. It can not drain and it turn itself on and off. Expensive washer for only four years of usage.

Frigidaire ATF6000ES1
New in 2006: $ 718.89
First repair 2008: $ 138.52
Current repair needed 2010: $ 529.79
Service call fee paid 2010: $ 70.00
TOTAL COST FOR 4 YEAR USE: $1,457.20

After four years of ownership above is the cost of purchase and repairs needed to keep washer going. We declined the current repair cost and bought a new one for less but NOT a Frigidaire.

Bearing Failure
by: Anonymous

This washer has worked without fail for 9 years.
Now the rear bearing is extreemly loud, with research it reads that it is an integral part of the rear hhalf of the tub housing, which needs to be purchased as one piece. Labour to replace it is quite intensive since the whole tub needs to be removed. I have regreased the rear bearing but the balls already seem to be scored. Further reading shows that othes have also had to replace the steel tub since the bearing wears on the tub shaft, which with my sitch, seems to be the case. The tub could be replaced under lifetime warrenty. While I had the washer apart, I notice it also had a broken shock absorber. I had noticed it was off balance more often for the past year, furthure research shows it is also a known failure spot...
Now I figure I need a whole new washer since this one is failing/falling apart.
$100/year of use... thanks but my next washer will not be Frigidaire.

Door Locking Mechanism Faulty
by: Fiona

We have had our washer for 2 years and recently the locking mechanism no longer works which based on an internet search this is a common problem.
