Cold water is better

Most of the energy the washer uses is to heat the water, so cold water is better.

Cold water washing every bit as good!
by: Anonymous

I've started doing my laundry in cold water and not only do the clothes come out clean the wash cycle is much shorter so I can get my laundry done in half the time. With all the new detergents and pre stain removers it really isn't necessary to wash at hot temperatures any more, except maybe for pillows if you want to get rid of dust mites.

I do this all the time and it works!
by: Scott

I have been using cold water to do my laundry for over a year now. I have also noticed that many detergents now say you can use them with cold water or even have cold water formulas on the market. I recently saw a show on Planet Green that stated that switched to cold water will save 40% of the energy used for washing your cloths, so its definitely a good tip!

Cold Water vs. Hot Water
by: Anonymous

With a family of five and lots of laundry to do I have also recently started using just cold water to wash my clothes. It would be interesting to know what the actual saving is!

Cold water is fine
by: Anonymous

My machine uses only cold water for washing. For heavy clothes or stained clothes I soak them in hot water for an hour and wash them in the machine with cold water. My clothes turn out clean and tidy.So no point wasting power when there are lots of problems in the world.

What a cool idea ;)
by: Sandie

I agree about using cold water. It's nice to know that the trick I've been using to keep my colors from running is also energy conserving. Thanks.

Cold Water Washing.
by: Anonymous

I have heard this before and I do agree with you. I try to use as much cold water as possible when it comes to doing the laundry. This really helps, espically since I use my washing machine all the time.

by: TM

I agree that using cold water is better to wash your clothes. I don't ever use hot or warm water to wash my clothes anymore. This saves alot of energy and money. Most clothes can be washed in cold water.
