Cheap Hairspray for Ink Stains

Cheap hairspray is a great way to get ink stains out of clothing. Before you wash the stained clothing, put a couple paper towels under the stained area. Spray with hairspray, and the ink will get sucked into the paper towels.

Run the clothing through the wash and check the stain. If some remains, repeat the process. Don't put the clothing in the dryer until the stain is gone!

red ink out of a "priceless" baseball cap
by: Anonymous

My son decided to find out if a red pen would write on a khaki baseball cap. Unfortunately, the cap was not his. The pen worked wonderfully - BIC would be so proud. Dad, however was irate because it was one of his favorites from a recent trip out of state. The hairspray worked. I was completely amazed. Same son wrote on a brand new pair of jeans with a black sharpie marker. The trick worked on those as well. I wonder if there is another mother with a son who is so curious. I also wonder if their son is about to enter the 7TH GRADE???!!!

Good Tip

I have used this tip for years. Hairspray will even remove Sharpie marker stains as well. If you don't have hairspray around rubbing alchohol works as well.

Nicely done. Never knew about that one before; wish I hadn't thrown out a few garments now.

Using hairspray on a ball point pen stain will remove most or all of the ink.

Ink's gone!!!
by: Anonymous

I used to be a cashier at a hardware store. I would lose the caps to my pens, but I would stick them in my vest pocket anyway. One day when I marked up my khaki pants with ink, one of my co-workers let me know about hairspray being used to remove ink stains. I usually apply the hairspray to the garmet, and let it set for a minute. Then I apply more and rub the stain. I rinse the the stained area in cold water until the stain has disappeared. If needed, I apply more hairspray until the stain has cleared. I do it this way instead of checking the stain when it gets out of the washing machine, because I always forget to check before I place the garmet in the dryer.

This works
by: Laine

I've done this before and it works! I don't use hairspray anymore so I don't have any laying around the house. I had completely forgotten about this tip.
