Not to belittle the other comments but in doing some research on children with allergies and the things that affect children with Autism, clean doesn't have a smell. A clean house or clean clothes should be odor free (free of stink and from perfumes and fragrances). Seventh Generation is a green company and if you like scented products theirs do have smells.

I have found that Cheer HE laundry detergent and Snuggle Extended release liquid fabric softener leave your clothes smelling fresh for quite some time no matter if you dry them on the line or in the dryer.
I have found my towels to smell better longer when I use the combination above and line dry them outside. The Snuggle softener extended release makes them fresher longer and my closet smells nice too!

This is so easy to do and also cheap because many of the cheaper detergents have a lot of perfume.
