Bosch 500 Nexxt Series

(Lavonia, Georgia)

I own a Nexxt 500 plus series washer and dryer which we purchased 1 year and 11 months ago now. I will never purchase another Bolsch appliance again. My first problem was with the washer collecting moisture which produced mold and mildew problems. My dryer suddenly stopped working shortly after Thanksgiving this year.

I have tried to get help from Bosch without success. Contacting service repair people have been left to us to track down eventhough we are still under "limited" warranty. I have been forced to go to the local coin laundry since Thanksgiving and it appears I will continue to do this for several more weeks until the parts can arrive from "Germany". I thought I had purchased laundry appliances that would last without problems for a long time. Apparently not is not the case.

Likely the 3rd time I need to replace the dryer element NEW
by: Anonymous

This dryer does NOT last. I already replaced the element twice, and now likely it's going to be a third time. This is JUNK.

Bosch washer and dryer is the worst NEW
by: Anonymous

For 2+ years I haven't been able to use 3 cycles....simply don't work. Cannot add liquid softener as the cup fills up with water and doesn't drain and/or go into washer at the proper cycle. Takes forever to do any of the remaining cycles. The dryer takes 1 1/2 hours to dry towels . Even though I have a high capacity dryer, I only dry 5-6 towels. Lint filter is awkward and I have to use a long handled brush to reach to the left inside to extract build up lint . Don't buy t

Dryer Wads Up Sheets
by: Anonymous

I purchased our Bosch washer and dryer in 2011. I have been extremely disappointed in the set. Yes, as people have commented, the front load washer should be left open after running a load, otherwise you get mold build-up on the rubber around the door. Once I figured that out, it hasn't been too bad. But my biggest complaint is about the dryer. I have never in my long life witnessed such a pitiful example of drying cloths. These were advertised as Energy Star rated. The dryer takes so long to dry the towels, jeans and sheets that it is ridiculous. The king size sheets NEVER get dry because they wad up into a tight roll, which prevents drying. I have tried everything I can think of, including drying the sheets separately... no luck. When the first sign of fault appears, which may be soon based on other responses, I am ditching this dry and going back to the old style Kenmore.

Uggghhh...
by: Frustrated

I bought my Bosch Nexxt washer and dryer in 2005...what a mistake. My old washer and dryer had lasted for more than 15 years and are probably still being used by the people who bought our old house. These units were top of the line at the time (and top of the price charts) so we naively assumed they would last for years...Well:
Here's what I hate about my Bosch washer & dryer:
-constant build up of "ick" in bottom front washer window.
-washer does not always drain completely
-need to prop washer door open between washes to prevent bad smell inside
-washer shakes violently during spin cycle which scares the heck out of me because it is on the second floor of my house and I worry about structural damage.
-dryer light is a bear to change -- had to purchase a special screwdriver ($20) and special order the bulb from a repair shop for $25!! Bosch would not sell me one because they insisted that this is a job that should only be performed by a qualified repairman. Really?
-dryer is LOUD and has been making a banging noise for several years now that no repair person has been able to fix.
-now (only eight years old) it is taking almost two hours to dry clothes and we are looking at replacing both units.
Is that how long appliances last now? I feel like my grandfather saying this, but "They just don't make things like they used to."

same issues
by: Anonymous

As I am sitting here waiting for the repair person to arrive, I am reading different articles and am now better prepared. I have had the same issues. Washer does not drain all the water out and shakes violently like a tornado. The dryer DOES wad up your items into balls and I do have to continuously open dryer and remove the items and start over. It takes forever to dry a set of king sheets and never completely dries. Now the dryer just doesn't heat at all. This is crazy and washing and drying clothes should not be this time consuming. I have had so many issues. I seriously wish that I still had my old white Maytags that I purchased in 1986 and used until 2002. Lucky person that is still using them.

by the way, I solved the dampness issue by leaving the door open until dry or I wipe it down.

Poor performing appliances!!
by: Leslie

I have had the same problems with our Bosch washer and dryer as everyone else. Our washer and dryer (500 series) are 3 years old. We've had to disassemble the washer once, and the dryer twice. Luckily, the three problems we've had were fixable (by resetting switches). If my husband was less determined to fix things himself, we probably would be out $300 + by now in repair bills.

The most recent issue we have is with the thermal sensor on the dryer needing to be reset. It takes unscrewing a good 20 screws to accomplish this task.. and if you remove the wrong screws, the drum comes loose.

The dryer wads up sheets and blankets. They come out in tight little balls, then have to be unwadded and re dryed. The washer decides not to spin at will. It usually does this when washing one heavy item, such as a beach towel, or blanket, or pillow. Very frustrating to have to wring out a beach towel by hand, then put it back on spin cycle.

I wouldn't recommend these appliances to anyone. This is completely unacceptable performance and reliability for 3 year old appliances.

I'm glad to know it isn't just me....
by: Anonymous

For the high price that we paid for the washer and dryer, I can honestly say that they were not worth it. Oh, they LOOK good, but that's where it ends. The timers have specific settings- You can't custom set a time you want- it doesn't sound like much, but believe me, it drives you nuts later on. They have LED lights that, even when finished, they stay on. These are the minor things. The front loading novelty has long worn off, unless you like mildew smells. The lint screen was a HORRIBLE design- a significant amount of lint gets through, and the opening is so small, a vacuum attachment won't fit to reach it. When you pull the filter out, again large amounts of lint fall through. We have had it barely a year, and now it doesn't even run. Very disappointed...

No More Bosch
by: Unsatisfied

Bought new 500 series Bosch dryer in 2008. 8 months beyond warranty, the dryer quit. First was a heater element reset, second time was a motor reset, third time, and last time was a cut off switch mounted on the motor frame that disintegrated, or should I say, blew apart on its own. Ordered new switch & replaced, turned dryer on, only to get giant blue sparks coming out of rear after replacing the switch. Quickly shut it off, unplugged, never to be used again. Logo on top of dryer says it all.."High Maintenance, High Care". Believe the first part.

Not Worth the $$$$
by: Anonymous

There are other brands out there that do a much better job.
The washing machine does not have the ability to do just a rinse cycle. When I wash heavy items they come out dripping wet.
When drying sheets & blankets they wad up in a ball. I have tried adding tennis balls which helped a bit but I still had to untangle the item every few minutes. If I didn't, the center does not dry.
I believe dryer is rough on the clothes due to all the lint in the lint screen. The lint screen does not catch all of the lint. I had a service guy come out to clean the lint trap area & even he could not vacuum all of the lint out.

It's just not worth the money. I have had the Sears Elite front loaders & I would buy those first if I had to do it over again.

dryer doesn't cut it
by: Mary

I know what you mean by the wadding of sheets in the Bosch dryer drum. I have solved this problem, at least partially, by adding a couple of tennis balls to the dryer. The bouncing of the tennis balls (although a little loud) helps to keep the sheets loose.

dryer doesn't cut it
by: Rhonda

I love my Bosch dishwasher, but this dryer I do not like. It wads my sheets into a tiny ball! I undo the tight wad and re-dry the wet portions and it wads it again and the sheets come out so wrinkled because of it. I would not buy this dryer again. The frustrating part of buying appliances is that you cannot try it out to see this before you buy. Now, I have to live with this for years! I tried putting a towel or two in as suggested by customer service, but this really doesn't help much.

German engineering? Really?
by: Anonymous

I have been waiting for over 4 weeks for my dryer to be repaired. . .3 new parts and still no go. Now, I need a new motor which is on "indefinite back order". From the comments made, I think we have all been suckered into thinking these were quality appliances. I also followed all the instructions given in the manual and only until a serv tech came to look at my washer did things make sense. The rinse cycle takes SO LONG because any more than 1 tsp of detergent is too much. The washer works much better now.
My dryer just stopped and I am now waiting, 4 weeks later, for a motor that is on "indefinite backorder". The only bosch that Lowe's and Sears now carries looks nothing like this unit. What happened to the Nexxt series? Ready to go back to Whirlpool.

Bosch Dryer and Washer
by: Anonymous

Don't know if mine is the 500 series but it is Nexxt. Would never buy it again. Dryer has stopped working twice now, serviceman couldn't find a problem the first time - sort of blamed it on dryer sheets. I dry everything on Extra Dry setting, otherwise clothes are not dry. I don't have wrinkles, though. I take good care of my appliances. The instructions for the washer are wrong - if you put as much soap in as they say it will keep rinsing forever. I use HE soap and can only use a very small amount. This is good, as the clothes are clean, but the instructions should be changed!

Don't buy Bosch 500 series

I have had the exact same experience with my Bosche Nexxt 500 series washer and dryer. Will never buy another. I have a Bosche dishwasher that I love. Don't know why the washer and dryer are such poor performers!

Wrinkles, wrinkles, wrinkles!
by: Anonymous

I purchased a Bosch Nexxt 500 Series Dryer and a 100 Series Washer. I will never purchase another Bosch product again. I have followed all manufacturer's instructions concerning the proper operation of both products. The washer leaves the clothes a tangled mess and sometimes does not spin the water out correctly. The dryer leaves the clothes FULL of wrinkles. I have tried every setting imaginable and have called Customer Service to see if they can help me - all to no avail. Considering the price I paid for the pair and the high expectations I had, I am extremely disappointed (almost to the point of depression) every time I do a load of clothes. I have told several of my friends who were purchasing new washers or dryers to avoid Bosch at all costs. If I sound bitter, it's only because I am!
