Be patient - delay putting detergent in

Do not put the detergent before the water has risen to the desired amount because many clothes can get ugly stains or discolored if the detergent is put on a garment when concentrated and not diluted in the water.

Patience revisited
by: Talitha

I have a different take on this - I say, be patient putting the *laundry* in.

If you put the detergent in as the water fills the machine, then add your clothes after the water has stopped running, the detergent has all been distributed through the water so you don't get clumps or stains.

That's true

Most detergents on the label say you should add clothes last. I have had white chalky stains before from putting the detergent in on top of the clothes before starting the washer. I know years ago my mom would always wait until the water filled, add the detergent, let it churn a few times on the actual wash cycle before adding the clothes.
