Avoiding Oily Spots

by Christy Dunford
(Chester, VA, US)

I constantly used to get these greasy or oily spots on my laundry, no matter which brand of liquid softener I used. Well, I switched to dryer sheets, same problem.

Now I dry the clothes on medium heat, no softener at all, for about 40 minutes. I then toss a dryer sheet in the dryer and tumble on low for 10 minutes, and they are perfect. There is even enough residue left on the sheet that I can use it for the next load.

Oily spots

When I get oily spots, I use Dawn dish washing detergent as a pretreatment. Another great pretreatment is mechanic's hand cleaner, but the average person is a little more likely to have Dawn on hand than Go Jo or Fast Orange.
